Baan Monmakok

A small resort located on the side of a long straight road which leads uphill to Wat Phra Phutthabat Tak Pha, the temple where legends say Buddha had visited and left his footprint and the imprint of his robe. The oversized footprint is now housed at the center of the temple where it is lowered down and framed by a set of stairs. This idea of imprinting and a strong symmetrical axis, a common element used in religious venues, drive the overall concept and design. The site plan of the resort suggests some kind of religious symbol which has been imprinted on the land. Its central courtyard is surrounded by solid walls with very minimum voids which opens to the sky, creating silent visual language. The main circulation faces the East-West axis allowing moments in which the visitors are welcomed by sunrise and sunset.
