When we needed a space for our studio, we stepped into the garden of our family home, filled with trees planted by our parents over a decade ago. Looking up at the canopy, we decided to build the studio by gently inserting it into the spaces between the trees.
Located on the top floor, the studio is one open space, zoned by varying floor levels and ceiling heights (1.15–3.80 meters), guiding views outward to the greenery. Lightweight materials like cement board and plywood were used, with no enclosed rooms and openings placed for cross ventilation. The steel structure is fully exposed, with trusses and bracing serving both aesthetic and functional roles, even supporting a cantilevered living space. Some structural elements extend to form built-in furniture.
This project reflects our intention to build lightly, respectfully, and honestly, without removing a single tree. It embodies the name Only Human, reminding us of our small place in the world.
